This book by Émile Duhousset (1823-1911, military geographer, artist and scientist) is the result of his experience, observations, stud farm visits, research in museum collections and interviews with veterinary school teachers.
The publication of this very useful study on the representation of the horse in art was welcomed by one of the author's friends, the painter Gérôme (reproduction of the letter in the foreword).
